"Egg Whites"


There are 2 parts to this assignment.

Part 1

You will need:

  •  1 egg (no egg? use a small white ball or similar white object, golf ball?)
  • a white background (could be a wall, sheet, etc)  
  • 1 white posterboard, white paper, white cards, etc.  
  • a light source (desklamp, work lamp, large flashlight, take the lampshade off of a lamp, etc)
  • your camera & memory card, of course

Instructions:

  1. Place an egg on a white background.  
  2. Don't move it. Don't touch it.  
  3. Take 1 photo of the egg using your cameras flash.  
  4. Now, turn the FLASH OFF!
  5. Take at least 12 different photos of the egg without moving it.
  6. You will move the light to make different photos.
  7. Use the white posterboard to bounce light back on the egg, too.

Part 2

You will need: 
  • white paper sculpture (you will make this) OR you could set up an all white still life using white objects (white sheet, white vases, white coffee mugs, pearls, feathers, all white whatever)
  • light source (same options as above)
  • white posterboard (to bounce light)
  • camera & memory card, of course
Instructions:

  1. Set up your paper sculpture or still life.
  2. Set up your light source.
  3. Make sure your camera's flash is OFF!
  4. Take at least 20 photos of your white paper sculpture/still life. 
  5. Approach it from all different angles and points of view.
  6. Move the light source if needed to create dramatic shadows & highlights.
